Kids' Scanner Appeal for The Children's Hospital, Sheffield. BBC Radio Sheffield.

The current '4 slice' CT scanner at The Children's Hospital is used over 1,600 times a year by almost every department within the hospital.

However, it is now over seven years-old and the hospital is not benefiting from advances that have been made with technology.

We want to raise £500,000 to buy a brand new '64 slice' CT scanner which will:

Produce clearer images and provide more information to aid in diagnosis and treatment
Emit even lower doses of radiation
Provide images of the body much faster than the old scanner
Come with extra software packages which may help avoid a child requiring an operation

Our local BBC radio station is proud to be leading this appeal which will reach out to
hundreds of thousands of listeners.

They are planning to highlight the appeal over a six month period, sharing stories of
our young patients and the hospital with their listeners
They know that The Children's Hospital has a special place in the hearts of many of
their listeners
We both believe that patients at The Children's Hospital deserve the very best
equipment
